Maca Root Review

Exactly a month ago I bought my first pack of Maca Root powder. I choose red raw maca, because its benefits matches my needs the most, however you can choose a different kind of maca. Maca is a small root which grows high in Peruvian Andes. Maca root is grounded into a powder and eaten as a staple food to help improve fertility, boost energy & stamina and to provide a nutritional boost. I bought it mainly because it supports endocrine system and regulates thyroid hormone production and it is good for bones density. Did anything happened after 1 month?

I used maca everyday for 4 weeks. I was adding it to my breakfast smoothie or simply making maca hot chocolate: raw maca + almond milk + cinnamon + cacao powder. Maca has pretty strong taste for me, so blending it with almond milk and cinnamon or adding to a smoothie was very helpful. I started from 1 spoon, but after a week I increased my dosage to 2 spoons. Sometimes I was adding 2 spoons to a smoothie in the morning, sometimes I was dividing this into 2 portions of hot chocolate daily – one with breakfast, second before lunch (for those who want to loose weight chocolate may not be a good idea… but you can try almond milk with cinnamon and maca).
I’ve noticed the difference after about a week. My hypothyroidism symptoms like fatigue and difficulty focusing decreased. I could take 0.25 mg my medication less than I normally take, which for me is a significant step. I didn’t have to take a nap during the day (what usually happens always around 5 o’clock…) Not only I could survive all day, but also I was full of energy! It is an amazing thing if you are hypothyroid, believe me. I Also noticed my PMS was much shorter which is a good news, especially for my husband I guess.

You cannot overdose Maca Root, but I tried once to take more than 2 spoons and I had a difficulty sleeping (!) that night, so make sure you take enough comparing to your weight. The maca team recommends 1-3 teaspoons, but you have to consider how much you weight:
The dosage levels we recommend [1-3 tsp] are for people who weigh 160 pounds (75 KG). Bigger people can generally take more. Smaller people should start with a smaller amount.

To sum up, I am positively surprised that little root works so well for my hormones and makes me more energized. To see more effects I probably have to wait a bit longer, but I am already very encouraged. I’ve read more about maca benefits and I found it can also help to build muscles. Next maca product I would like to try is yellow maca – energizing & improving skin health. Which maca would you like to try? Check the links bellow.

I am also considering buying maca extract liquid- drops which does not have such a strong taste. As I read it has a sweet, pleasant taste and is low on the glycemic index. Did you try it already?

Also if you do not like a taste of maca at all and do not want to mix it with your smoothie, you can always buy easy to swallow maca capsules. Enjoy!
