Shea Moisture weightless shampoo & volume + conditioner review

Long/medium length hair looking flat a few hours after blow drying or straightening? The s(h)ame hair day everyday and no ideas how to change it? Find out how I got rid off this problem.

My hair were long, shiny and naturally straight since I remember. Sounds good right? Everyone is buying straighteners to make hair look like that, but I am not happy, what is wrong with me? First of all my hair looked the same every day, second of all because of hypothyroidism they started thinning in some periods of the treatment and third of all – most annoying thing – they had no volume. I was trying to make them look bigger by using some sprays while blow drying, but it all worked for like 30 minutes and made them oily few hours later.
Researcher mode on
I started to research about ingredients of shampoos and conditioners and found out all that (I’ll be very honest…) trash which they put to almost all of the drugstores average priced products. Parabens, silicones etc. The list is long. I wanted to find something that does not built silicone layers on my delicate, naturally blond hair. I went to one of the stores and there I found – Shea Moisture Weightless shampoo with coconut water & dragon’s blood (I know sounds a bit creepy) & coffee cherry conditioner. What happened when I tried them?IMG_20170412_110428_405
Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Shampoo
According to the producer:
SheaMoisture’s Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Shampoo is a sulfate-free shampoo that gently cleanses and hydrates hair weightlessly. Certified organic Shea Butter and Coconut Water blend with our proprietary fusion of Dragon Fruit, Lychee Berry and Green Apple Extracts to nourish and energize lifeless hair. Vitamin-rich Imbe Oil blocks humidity to help control frizz while Aloe adds weightless shine.
They also assure that shampoo is:
  • Made with natural and certified organic ingredients.
  • Fruit Fusion is a blend of fresh Dragon Fruit, Lychee Berry and Green Apple Extracts infused with coconut water to boost lifeless hair.
  • 100% Pure Coconut Water hydrates and nourishes hair with vitamins and minerals.
  • Imbe Oil is a vitamin rich oil that locks in moisture and protects and hair weightlessly.
I don’t know what you think, but for healthy nut like me this sounds just amazing!
First impressions
In the nice bottle you find orange-transparent shampoo, which smells like very delicate fruits with a hint of coconut. The consistency is more like liquid than a gel, so if you did not use organic shampoo before – you’ll have to get used to it. I washed my hair twice like I usually do. Shampoo created pretty nice foam so after I rinsed it off my hair felt very fresh and clean.
I put SheaMoisture Dragon’s Blood & Coffee Cherry Volume+ Conditioner right away for my ends only, even though producer recommends “from roots to ends”. I was afraid of having too moisturized hair (they are really healthy already).
What producer says about this product:
SheaMoisture Dragon’s Blood & Coffee Cherry Volume+ Conditioner is a lightweight formula that moisturizes and conditions thinning hair at its weakest points, reducing falling for a fuller, thicker look.
  • Made with natural and certified organic ingredients
  • Dragon’s Blood Extract, a rich resin, coats strands to help to promote a fuller appearance
  • Coffee Cherry Extract is rich in antioxidants and invigorating caffeine.
  • Black Currant Oil is a natural source of gamma-linolenic acid known to promote healthy hair growth.
This product consistency is like a standard conditioner, but it is not too heavy – you can feel a difference between this one and the ones with silicone. I like the bottle with pump – 1 pump is enough for ends of medium length hair, 2 pumps I would say for long hair. The conditioner smells a m a z i n g ! I don’t know how to describe the smell, but I really loved it and also it stays on hair until next wash – same as shampoo by the way. I do not know if it reduces hair falling, because I do not have problem right now, but maybe it prevents it if you use it for a longer period.
Summary
Shampoo is my new favorite: it is natural and smells delicate, leaving hair clean & shiny & weightless – my husband uses this shampoo and he likes it too! The only thing – I do not know why – I noticed my hair a little bit more static prone after I use this shampoo – but my husband’s hair acts normal. I am still checking if it is this shampoo’s fault or my hair spray.
Conditioner: I usually buy masks instead, but they did not have this one in a store, so I choose this product. What I love is the smell, consistency and fact that it leaves my hair shiny & detangles them already in the shower. I also love the bottle with pump – very useful.
Would I buy it again? Absolutely yes, however Shea Moisture offer such a variety of products, so I am excited already to try another ones too. My problem with flat hair has just been resolved. Weightless shampoo is really weightless which provides better looking, fuller hair. Especially now, when I cut them 10 inches down and wearing lob.

Hello Spring! Must have beauty products to welcome spring

Yay! Spring is here. Well, I would probably be even happier for that reason if I still lived in Poland, because here in Texas I didn’t really see real winter this year (in PL was -4 F… here like 40 F) so in Northern Europe they’re REALLY waiting for Spring to come…but let’s just stay in this happy spring-spirit, because why not? 😀
Although winter this year was pretty kind (I’ve seen snow only in New Mexico when we went skiing pic bellow ;))IMG_20170217_182706_018
I am sure general detox, intense skin & hair care are not a bad ideas. I would like to share my spring beauty must-haves for coming season, are you ready?
Face care
Scrub & Moisturizing face mask
My number one on the list is a good scrub & moisturizing face mask. After winter windy weather I noticed I have visibly dry skin around my nose, chin and forehead. It does not look good even if you put on a foundation or BB cream, because dry skin is even more visible. I think a scrub (for example Alba Botanica from this post) plus face mask can really help in this case. Moisturize & refresh your skin for spring. Isn’t it what you need?
I recommend ANDALOU NATURALS masks, for instance avocado cocoa skin food. If you need super moisture right away and you do not like to put on masks like a cream, you can try ready to use fiber sheet masks (I’ve got one, you’ll see in the pic bellow with nail polish)- super easy, super effective and all natural
Do you have any fav masks? Share in a comment, I will be glad to try something new.
Brightening serum
I don’t know why, but my skin during winter was breaking out more often, so now I need to get rid off some red marks. How? By using brightening serum. I just discovered recently this one by Insta Naturals and it works very good!

Hair care
Ok, if face is pretty now it’s time for hair. After winter I usually struggle with dry ends, however this year I am pretty good comparing to previous years. Maybe because I used some argan oil for ends (at least sometimes If I din’t forget…). Anyways, I think you really should first start from scalp detox, before you take care of your ends. Use light, weightless shampoo with fruit or herbs extracts, with no SLS (sodium laureth sulfate – which can only make your scalp worse – read here) and no silicones – they won’t really clean your scalp. Look for natural ingredients like leaf extracts and natural oils. If you have problems with scalp try deep cleansing shampoo like this with tea tree extract by Shea Moisture.

playing with colors… I don’t have silver hair 🙂
Usually this kind of shampoos are pretty strong, you may want to use it just 1-2 week and add conditioner to your daily routine or what I recommend more – hydration hair mask. They work better than conditioners, at least for me, so if you have dry, matte hair or just ends, buy a good hair mask. BUT again – with no silicones and parabens, because this will help you just for a while and just outwardly. Invest in something natural, like this one with amazing Manuka honey or Castor Oil and use at least 3 times per week.
Nails care
I won’t write here too much about nails, you can read more in my older post: Nails & hypothyroidism. I will just share my absolutely favorite spring nail polish colors which are in the picture bellow by Zoya. Love the strong pigmentation, the fact that they do not chip easily and they do not contain formaldehyde ❤

Colors: Kara and Carey
Ok my ladies, with that stuff I am sure you’re ready to welcome spring being glowing & beautiful no matter what! Just remember that beauty starts inside – and no, I don’t want to talk about your soul here – just vitamins & minerals & thyroid and sex hormones. If you have a mess there (hormonal imbalance, minerals/vit deficiency etc.) you’ll never look or feel beautiful. Take care of that first, so you can be sure the products I just recommended will be working for you perfectly.
 Stay awesome!

Best and most disappointing skincare products of February

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I am sure at least once in your life you bought some cosmetics which actually didn’t meet your expectations at all. I just did and today I am gonna tell you about some of my best and worst choices of  February. Ready?
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay
I bought this mask because I was struggling with some breakouts after I’ve been travelling to a humid places. My sister in law recommended it to me and this product is amazing! It is very easy to use – you add 1 tsp of clay + 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar or micellar water (I use apple cider vinegar), blend it and put on your face for about 15-20 min. After you rinse it off with quite amount of water, you’ll notice a big difference – breakouts are not that red anymore, skin is smoother and feels great. I used it 4 times and my pores cleansed amazingly – honestly I do not have any breakouts now. You can buy it here >>
Clinique Claryfying Lotion 2
Usually I try to buy organic & natural, vegan etc. products. This time I did a research and only because I had a problem with acne & clogged pores (yep, again..), I decided to break my rule and buy something not really organic hoping that I finally won’t see acne on my face. This Clinique product is a 2nd step of 3 steps clinique in skin cleansing routine. It was suppose to clarify dry skin and according to a producer:
the smoothing formula whisks away flakes and refines pores to reveal a clearer complexion. The cool, refreshing formula removes dead cells from the surface of the skin helping moisturizer and makeup to apply evenly.
It is for dry or combination skin, but what happened instead? It dried out my skin to the point it was hurting especially around my nose area… I didn’t expect that from clinique brand which is very popular in USA… but this is not the end. With this product I also bought Pore Refining Perfector which was suppose to make my pores at least smaller. Unfortunately, for me it does not work at all for me. It is just like you put silicone layer on your face and it is smoother, but what else?20170227_142820
Maybe for someone with non acne-prone skin it would be good to make your skin smoother, but to me it is a disaster, just clogs pores. I am still wondering how come those 2 clinique products have such a good reviews on the Internet? Well, I won’t buy this products again. And they are not extra cheap either: lotion was about 15 $ for 200 ml, pore perfector 21 $ for a tiny tube. I got it with some discounts and I received samples, like this Clinique Pop lacquer lip colour in love pop shade which was a good surprise. Nice shade and very well moisturizing formula. I also like how it looks, you can see the picture bellow.img_20161105_113201
Maybe if this lip gloss was organic I would buy it, but for this price I am sure I can find something better and – what I appreciate more – cruelty free.
Insta Natural Skin Brightening Serum with Vitamin C
After pretty bad experiences unexpectedly with Clinique brand, I found a great relief for my skin. Everyone know that after you finally get rid off acne & breakouts, it leaves those red marks and scars. So even though I could easily cover them with my foundation, I did not want to have them at all. Insta Natural Brightening Serum is a genius.20170227_143824.png
It makes dark spots, scars (even sun discolorations) less visible and finally actually invisible! On top of that it is 100% organic, vegan and it smells so good – the bottle seems to be light pink, but inside there is orange liquid. This is definitely my favorite product of February! What is yours?

Alba Botanica Acne Dote Face & Body Scrub REVIEW

Today I am gonna review for you Alba Botanica Acne Dote Face & Body Scrub. What caught my attention is that this scrub is 100% natural with no parabens and any synthetic fragrances, which seemed to be perfect for my sensitive, breakouts prone skin.
What producer says about scrub:
  • Treats and helps prevent breakouts for squeaky-clean, clear skin
  • Foaming scrub with ground walnut shell is tough on backne but naturally gentle enough for daily facial cleansing
  • 100% vegetarian ingredients
  • No animal testing
  • NO: parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances20170215_130209.png
My impressions
I would say it is a mild (not too delicate, yet not too strong) scrub. I used it daily for my face & neckline area for about 3 weeks. When I opened the tube I saw brown colored scrub. It surprised me a bit, because the box is white-green so I was expecting something lighter. Anyways, this is just a color 🙂

Scrub smells like mint & crashed walnut/hazelnut which for me it was not an amazingly pleasant scent, but also not too bad. When you apply scrub on your face – oh my goodness! I really like how it feels on my skin, and after I rinsed my face with water, I felt it very refreshed – probably because scrub contains peppermint. Skin was smoother, brighter, refreshed and did not feel too dry.
Does it work for acne?
Active ingredient here is salicylic acid. This type of acid may help with milder acne, but not if you suffer from really bad, hormonal, cystic acne. It helps to unclog pores to resolve lesions, however it does not kills bacteria. So it means that if you stop using product with salicylic acid, your pores comes back to previous condition. In my case it helps to calm down my skin, but the best thing is that I could finally got rid off dead skin (which is sometimes visible after I dry my breakouts with tea tree oil or zinc cream). In general, I found my skin cleaner & brighter – because as I was saying – this scrub removes dead skin cells & oil from the skin amazingly.
Time to give my points; where 1 means ‘I don’t like it’, 5 means ‘I love it’
package: 4 (sometimes I get too much of this scrub – so I don’t know if the consistency could be thicker or tube could have smaller ending)
consistency: 5
fragrance: 3
effectiveness:
price: 5 (very reasonable 6-9$ for 8oz)
availability: 5 (from target to whole foods + online)
Would I buy it again? Yes
To sum up, I am not fan of the scent, but I like how effective this scrub is. However the fragrance is not a problem, and at least I am sure it is 100% natural. For more diligent & curious readers – bellow the review I present the list of ingredients. I hope you found this review helpful. Do you know other organic scrubs? Do you recommend anything?
